The Great Cable Management Guide

Open up most people's PCs and you'll find a jungle of cables that would make an electrician weep. But cable management isn't just about aesthetics — it actually matters for your computer's health.

Why Bother?

Messy cables block airflow inside your case. Your fans are trying to create a smooth flow of cool air in and hot air out, but cables dangling everywhere create turbulence and dead zones where hot air gets trapped.

Quick Tips

  • Use the back panel: Most modern cases have space behind the motherboard tray for routing cables
  • Velcro ties over zip ties: Velcro is reusable and won't accidentally cut into cables
  • Bundle similar cables: Group power cables together, data cables together
  • Start from the motherboard: Route the 24-pin and CPU power first, then work outward
